Tsomgo Lake & Nathula Pass – High-Altitude Wonders
A thrilling drive from Gangtok takes you to Tsomgo Lake, a stunning high-altitude glacial lake at 12,400 feet. Its ever-changing colors and reflections of surrounding snow-capped peaks create a mesmerizing view. Enjoy a Yak ride, soak in the serene atmosphere, and capture unforgettable moments.
A short distance away lies the historic Nathula Pass, a strategic Indo-China border post at 14,140 feet. Nathula Pass offers an exhilarating experience as you stand at one of India’s highest motorable roads, gazing into the vast Tibetan Plateau. Due to its high altitude, proper acclimatization is essential before visiting.
After an adventurous day, return to Gangtok and relax before your next destination.
Lachen – The Road to North Sikkim’s Hidden Beauty
The journey to North Sikkim begins with a scenic drive to Lachen, a beautiful Himalayan village surrounded by majestic peaks and lush valleys. The road trip itself is an experience, offering mesmerizing views of rivers, waterfalls, and dense forests.
Lachen is the gateway to Gurudongmar Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world at 17,800 feet. This sacred glacial lake, with its turquoise waters and barren yet breathtaking landscape, is a sight to behold. Due to the thin air at high altitude, acclimatization is crucial.
After witnessing the breathtaking beauty of Gurudongmar Lake, return to Lachen for a warm meal and a well-deserved rest.
Lachung & Yumthang Valley – The Valley of Flowers
From Lachen, continue your journey to Lachung, another picturesque mountain village known for its fruit orchards and mesmerizing landscapes.
The highlight of this region is Yumthang Valley, famously called the Valley of Flowers. Situated at 11,800 feet, this valley transforms into a vibrant floral paradise during the blooming season (April-May). During winter, the entire valley is covered in snow, creating a surreal white wonderland. The Teesta River flows through the valley, adding to its charm.
For those looking for more adventure, an excursion to Zero Point (15,300 feet) offers breathtaking snow-covered landscapes year-round.
After experiencing the pristine beauty of Yumthang Valley, return to Lachung for an overnight stay, enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
Pelling – A Journey into Sikkim’s Heritage
Next, travel to Pelling, a small yet spectacular town that offers unparalleled views of the Kanchenjunga range. Pelling is a perfect blend of natural beauty and historical significance.
